Capoeira is a rich Afro-Brazilian martial art form that combines dance, acrobatics, culture, music, and community. Here in Chicago, our group, Gingarte Capoeira, is led by Mestre Marisa Cordeiro, one of the highest-ranking female capoeiristas in the world.
Every year, we at Gingarte host an event to celebrate the contributions that women have made in capoeira.
The weekend-long event includes a special BEGINNER’S CLASS, which will be held on Saturday, March 18 from 12:00pm – 1:00pm. At 1:00pm, beginners are invited to rest and stay to watch a full capoeira roda in action, with live music and advanced capoeiristas.
Please note that this class will welcome EVERYONE who is new to capoeira but we hope to especially encourage girls, women, and femmes to come out and try capoeira for the first time.
Please bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothing (a t-shirt, track/yoga pants, and lightweight shoes work well).
There is NO COST for the BEGINNER’S CLASS but donations are encouraged! Gingarte Capoeira is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
